Message from the Race Director:
Sanctioned Event

Dear athletes, sponsors, volunteers and friends,

It is will heartfelt sadness that I inform you our event team will be canceling the 2016 Battle of the Bridges Triathlon scheduled for October 2, 2016. Since 2003 we have championed the cause of raising monies to assist cancer patients and their families. I now have that battle to face with, a serious diagnosis and long treatment course ahead. Our team just cannot give the best athlete experience without the entire team in place.

In the coming weeks you will receive word on how your registration dollars will be refunded to you via IM Athlete. At this time our event team is unclear of the 2017 date, but will continue to keep you informed as we know more.

Thank you so much for your valued participation in the Battle of the Bridges Triathlon and your kind and continued support.

How does a Race Director get so lucky and so Blessed? Thank you to April and Julio Castillo and all who helped coordinate, oversee and participated in the mock Battle of the Bridges triathlon. What an honor to have you all do this for me at a time when I just couldn't. I am so grateful for the funds that you raised for our local cancer patients here in Brevard county! Each of you inspires me, lifts me up and keeps me motivated in this often exhausting battle against Colon and Liver cancer. Much love and gratitude to all of you!

In this installment, Ginger Twigg – Bike Course Coordinator Extraordinaire shares a few surprising details about herself.

QUESTION: What is your favorite thing about being involved with Battle of the Bridges Triathlon ?
ANSWER: Many people have no idea how hard it is to promote and organize a quality triathlon like this. It requires about much time and dedication as it takes to actually train for the event. But seeing it all come together from behind the scenes, and then seeing the participants overcome their fears, mishaps and achieve their goals, is the best part.

QUESTION: What your perfect Saturday is like?
ANSWER: Getting in a challenging and fun bike ride with friends, and then heading to the shop to talk to people about just how fun cycling is as a sport, recreation or transportation.

QUESTION: Complete this sentence. "My favorite activities include…"
ANSWER: …going someplace to ride bikes with my husband and/or friends, and of course playing with my crazy dogs.

QUESTION: Tell us something cool about yourself that we don't know.
ANSWER: My father worked for the phosphate companies in the center part of the state in the 60's and 70's, I use to hunt for fossils with him, or guide a mature archaeologist through the phosphate pits to helping them find a variety of fossilized animal bones and teeth. I knew just about every genus of sharks from the shape of their teeth. My best find was a fossilized rhino tooth that I traded for an opal arrowhead that I still own. At that time in my life I thought I would become an archaeologist when I grew up.

QUESTION: If you could eat any three foods whenever you wanted (without worrying about your health) what would they be?
ANSWER: Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!

QUESTION: Do you have a nickname?
ANSWER: Not really, with a name like Ginger. There use to be a guy, named Tom Erwin, that raced on the shop road racing team in the 90's that always would walk to the shop and yell out "Ginger Snap”... I miss old Tom he was a great person and the nicest of people I have had the pleasure of knowing.

QUESTION: If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
ANSWER: Filter is not installed...Sorry!

QUESTION: What story does your family always tell about you?
ANSWER: My dad let me shoot his shotgun when I was 5, the next day I came down with chicken pox and I blamed shooting the gun. I was 12 before I would shoot again and go hunting with my dad.

QUESTION: What is the most daring thing you've ever done? ANSWER: Helping my husband follow his dream of opening a bicycle shop... that leap of faith into the unknown, owning our own business and realizing the sacrifices. I learned there is no such thing as failure, only more to learn.
